The incident is reported to have started on 15th March 2023, around 4:30 p.m. The Ashanti Region's capital Kumasi's main market, Kejetia, allegedly burned to the ground. Despite the lack of details regarding the fire's origin, sources tell FlashBack that it started at the tire shop Kejetia Dubai. The Ghana Fire Service is currently evacuating people from the damaged sections of the building while putting out the fire.
The building's different parts are all emitting a lot of smoke. A mother and her baby reportedly passed out at the scene due to the heavy smoke, according to a story by Joy News.
In an attempt to survive, a second lady also leaped from the building. Assisting the inferno victims at the moment are employees from the Ghana Police Service and the Ambulance Service. To the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital are brought the wounded.
