Manchester United has released seven players.

The retained list that the organization published ahead of the 2023–24 season indicates that seven players will leave Manchester United when their contracts expire. The two most noteworthy players leaving United this summer are Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe, but a number of younger club members have also been let go. David De Gea and United have "discussions remain open" regarding a potential new deal, according to United.

The information that Jones' contract would not be extended and that he would be free to leave the organization after 12 years was made public last month.

The 31-year-old has only started two games in the previous three years because of a knee problem. He was last observed on May 20 during a session at Carrington and did not practice at all the previous season. He has started 16 games since inking a new contract in February 2019, and he has been taken off the field five times at halftime.

Tuanzebe hasn't played for United since the Europa League final in 2021. The 25-year-old had another injury-plagued year in 2022, which led to just five appearances during a four-month loan with Stoke City in the Championship. Northern Irish midfielder Ethan Galbraith also left the team. The 22-year-old was on loan with League Two outfit Salford during the previous season and has previously been linked to moves to the Championship.

Galbraith made his sole Manchester United appearance in the group stage of the Europa League in November 2019 against Astana. He is now on an international assignment for the senior Northern Ireland side. Di'Shon Bernard's release Clause was not triggered by United, thus he is free to talk to prospective clubs this summer about a permanent contract.

Goalkeeper Eric Hanbury of the academy, forward Manni Norkett, and midfielder Charlie Wellens will all receive assistance from the aftercare program as they search for new teams. Ethan Laird's contract with United has been extended by one year, but after another fruitless loan with Queens Park Rangers, he could be moved this summer.

The captain of the team that won the FA Youth Cup had his contract extended, and Mateo Mejia, a forward in the academy, received a new offer. Tom Huddlestone, the player-coach for the Under-21s team, is expected to remain with the organization following contract negotiations. In addition, the club decided to extend Nathan Bishop's and Tom Heaton's contracts by a further year. Although Mason Greenwood is listed as a player for United, the outcome of their internal investigation is unrelated to this.
