Yvonne Nelson reveals how Sarkodie forced her to have their child aborted

Yvonne Nelson, a Ghanaian actress and film producer, published her first book on June 18, 2023. The claim that she terminated rapper Sarkodie's pregnancy in 2010 when he refused to accept responsibility is a key talking point of the memoir, titled "I Am Not Yvonne Nelson."

According to her, the rapper's initial response to hearing about the pregnancy was a clear heart palpitation and a trembling voice, and he ignored the pregnancy in favor of his burgeoning career.

The actress admits that she later learned that Sarkodie had a girlfriend who was enrolled in a college outside of the nation.

"I gave him a call and told him we had to speak. This was hardly the kind of news to break in the house—he still resided with his mother. When I arrived in Tema, I called him out of the home, and we sat in my Toyota Rav4. If my memory is accurate, he was driving a Toyota Matrix at the time. When I told him the news, I could tell his feelings were strong. His heart was racing, and when he finally found his words, he stumbled. But his message was clear. The pregnancy wasn't something he wanted. He and his career would both suffer as a result. The only choice was to get rid of it.

I'm not sure if his uncertain life and work were the real reasons he couldn't afford to let me keep the pregnancy. He had a girlfriend who was enrolled in a university outside the nation, I subsequently learned," she wrote.

In Chapter 8 of her book, Yvonne Nelson said that the circumstances forced her to make the difficult decision to end the pregnancy. She described the scenario as dangerously complicated.

"He became connected with me while she wasn't around, and things became really risky. He was adamant about whatever it was. The decision-making process was left up to me. When he declined to keep the pregnancy, my own life was the first thing that struck me. My father was absent from my life as I grew up. The fact that I had been born accidentally had frequently been brought up to me. I was still unsure of my father's identity when I met the man with my name. How was I going to have a child who would have a father who would reject him or her like Mr. Nelson had rejected me, and who would live a life similar to mine?

Why would I refuse that option if there was a way to save someone else the trauma I was dealing with, especially considering that I wasn't mentally and emotionally ready to be a mother? said she.

Sarkodie, who released his debut album "Makye" in 2009, is currently among Ghana and Africa's most acclaimed rappers. Until his marriage in 2018, he maintained a low profile regarding his relationships and love life.

In 2018, the rapper wed Tracey Owusu Addo, his longtime partner. Tracey educated and spent the majority of her life outside of Ghana.

About the book by Yvonne Nelson

"I Am Not Yvonne Nelson" is a shocking and captivating narrative of a young woman who sets out to know herself but learns that she has been using a false identity.

With the exception of the protagonist, an actor, who is coping with a reality that causes her to occasionally sob into her pillow, this compelling story has all the hallmarks of a riveting movie script.
