A father was detained after selling his three kids for N1.5 million. Thank God Ekwueme was taken into custody by the Rivers State Police Command in Nigeria after he was found to be selling his three children. The suspect, whose wife is deaf and dumb, sold his first child, a 5-year-old, for N700,000 (GHS 10,314.97), his second child, a 3-year-old, for N350,000 (GHS 5,120.48), and a day-old infant for N500,000 (7,314.97).

In a statement released on July 13, 2023, the command's spokeswoman, SP, said the suspect was detained as a result of reliable information about his criminal behavior. Ekwueme said in a press conference that OSPAC stopped him from selling his infant when they saw him about to do so in his community of Omerelu in the state's Ikwerre Local Government Area. The suspect admitted that after being turned over to the Elele Police Division, he was moved to the CP Monitoring Unit.

In the meantime, Mr. Ekwueme's mother-in-law told reporters that the suspect had previously lied to her about her grandchildren dying after childbirth. She claimed that the culprit, Ekwueme, was perpetrating the act of selling the wife's children as soon as they were born by using her daughter (his wife), who is deaf and dumb.
