A woman in the Ashanti Region town of Obuasi expressed her desperation for her Member of Parliament, Kwaku Kwarteng, to pass away in order to address their urgent developmental issues. She stated that since it appeared that neither the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, nor his vice, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, would visit their towns to ensure that they received development up until a by-election could be held, she might as well have prayed for her MP's demise.
The woman expressed her desire for a by-election to take place in her region in a video that Onua TV released from their Peoples' Assembly in Obuasi on Thursday, June 8, 2023. God ought to grant us a portion of the by-election in Obuasi here. Because Nana Akufo-Addo and Bawumia would both be in this area, God should kill one MP so that we may also organize a by-election. "When they arrive, we may lay out our requests for them, and they will fulfill them. God should thus also conduct the by-election for us as He does for others. To get Nana and his people to visit this town and hear our worries, he should execute Kwaku Kwarteng for us, she remarked.
Since the beginning of the year, one by-election has been held in Kumawu, and another is scheduled for Assin North after the Supreme Court decided that the election of James Gyakye Quayson of the National Democratic Congress in 2020 was invalid. Due of his dual citizenship, the NDC man had been taken to court. On June 27, 2023, there will be a by-election in Assin North.
