Alan and Bawumia will be vetted by the NPP's presidential primary committee

The Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Minister of Trade and Industry Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, and the energy specialist Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku are scheduled to appear before the Vetting Committee, signaling a critical stage in the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) campaign for the 2024 elections. The candidates' suitability to serve as the party's flagbearer will be evaluated by a committee under the direction of Prof. Mike Oquaye.

The screening process for the flagbearer job is set to begin today, Monday, July 3, after nominations for the position ended on Saturday, June 24. The appearances of the three candidates indicated above will take place on the first day of vetting. Boakye Agyarko, a former energy minister, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, a former party general secretary, and Kennedy Agyapong, a representative for Assin Central, will all testify before the committee on Tuesday.

On the next day, Wednesday, July 5, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, Dr. Owusu Afriyei Akoto, and MP Joe Ghartey of Essikado-Ketan are slated for their background checks. Francis Addai-Nimoh, a former Mampong MP, will also appear before the committee on Thursday, July 6. The outcomes of the screening procedure will be made public on Friday, July 21, according the NPP's schedule.

On Monday, July 24, there will be a voting session after that. On Saturday, August 26, a National Congress by a Special Electoral College will be conducted in an effort to whittle the field of candidates down to five if more than five candidates pass the screening process. The decision to choose November 4 as the date for the election of the party's flagbearer is crucial to the NPP's hopes of winning the next 2024 elections.
