Bawku MP reacts: The attack at Pusiga in the Upper East Region, which left 6 persons dead. The most recent killings and assaults on citizens of the Bawku Municipality have been denounced by Mahama Ayariga, the representative for Bawku Central. He called the attacks that resulted in the deaths of nine persons and the maiming of many more as senseless. 


This occurred following an attack by known gunmen on a group of passengers who were riding in two different vehicles in the Pusiga District. The attack resulted in the unfortunate death of 6 women, 3 men, and several others enduring various degrees of injuries.


According him, the MP expressed profound sorrow over the loss of lives and the maiming of the individuals. “This cowardly and senseless shooting of passenger vehicles in the Bawku areas and Walewale is unacceptable and continues to completely derail the recent improving security situation in Bawku and its environs,” part of the statement read.

Mahama Ayariga further called on the security agencies to expedite actions to address the inherent factors that threaten security in the municipality. He highlighted the need to put an end to shootings carried out in retaliation and exhorted the military to act resolutely to stop such horrible crimes.


The soldiers must be resolute in their stance and act quickly to put an end to the retaliatory shootings. To safeguard the safety of tourists on the Bawku and Walewale routes and in the surrounding area, the security services need to act quickly, he said.


The MP sent his sincere condolences to the families of those who perished in the attacks. He wished the victims who had suffered bullet wounds and injuries well and prayed for a speedy recovery. 


“I prayed for a speedy recovery. The government must fully commit itself to resolving the underlying issues causing the insecurity situations in Bawku to ensure lasting peace,” the statement added.
