The death of 26-year-old Shaibu Masawudu while in police custody infuriated the youth of Ejura. They set the police station, some private homes, and automobiles on fire. Masawudu was arrested on accusations of stealing a phone. While in custody, he reported experiencing nausea and vomiting; nonetheless, he died in the hospital.

The youth in Ejura were incensed at the police's actions and demanded answers, but when they didn't receive them, they became enraged and set the police station and other properties on fire. Following Shaibu Masawudu's death in police custody, the police took his body to Mampong for an autopsy without telling his family, according to the family.
